Plaid MS congratulates Jonny Clayton on darts win

Speaking in the Senedd, Cefin Campbell, Plaid Cymru’s Member of the Senedd for Mid & West Wales, congratulated the Welsh darts player, Jonny Clayton on his recent victory at the World Grand Prix.

Jonny Clayton, a Welsh-speaker from Pontyberem, Carmarthenshire, secured a convincing 5-1 victory against his fellow Welshman, Gerwyn Price in the final held at Leicester on Saturday. Winning his first World Grand Prix championship, Clayton secured his third title of the year – having previously won the Masters and Premier League. The win also propelled Clayton into the world top 10 for the first time.

Speaking in the Senedd during the 90 Second Statement on Wednesday 13th of October 2021, Cefin Campbell said:

“Jonny, or The Ferret, as he's known, is a Welsh speaker who lives in Pontyberem and the people of Bont, the Gwendraeth Valley, Carmarthenshire and the whole of Wales take great pride in his success. Astonishingly, despite his success, he continues to work as a plasterer on a part-time basis for Carmarthenshire County Council, and I understand that he intends to continue with this work for some time to come. It's clear that he can turn his hand to virtually anything.

“I'm sure that we would all want to wish Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price well over the next 12 months as the darts season picks up pace, and congratulate him once again on his success.”

Liam Bowen, Plaid Cymru County Councillor for Pontyberem added:

“Everyone in Pontyberem is extremely proud of Jonny’s success on the weekend. This is his latest achievement in what is turning out to be a very successful 12 months for him, and as a community we are excited to see what the future holds for him, and thank him for putting Pontyberem on the map!”
